One night, a couple driving on a highway near Oviedo, Florida, came across a site that made them stop in their tracks. They saw a dog by the side of the road, wandering with no idea where he was going, and almost colliding with traffic. They immediately stopped and went to see the dog.
They were shocked to see his physical condition. He had heavily tangled fur that restricted his movement and covered much of his face, which is why he couldn’t see where he was going, and almost ended up being run over. He was barely reactive and seemed to have been abandoned and neglected for much of his life.
The couple just couldn’t leave it there. So they decided to take him in the car with them. But as they couldn’t keep it overnight, they launched a desperate call online – a call that groomer Kari Falla answered.
When a dog is badly tangled, this can cause blood flow to stop and bruising on the dog. Seeing the dog in such bad shape, Kari knew she couldn’t wait until the next day to help him. WOW! Wait until you see this transformation!
Kari rushed into her living room, BGE Grooming, in the middle of the night. “I knew it was bad, but nothing prepared me for what I saw. It smelled like death and the dog couldn’t walk, ”she said. Kari worked tirelessly until 3 a.m. She completely shaved him and estimated that he was wearing more than two years of uncontrolled fur. She bathed him and took him to his local veterinarian. Meanwhile, they decided to name it Lucky.
The next big surprise came to the vet’s office. Apparently Lucky was both blind and deaf. Add to that his tangled fur and bad shape, he was almost certain to end up being a road killer before the end of the night, if he hadn’t had the chance to be spotted by the nice couple.
Fortunately, the veterinarian castrated and gave him shots and cleaning of the teeth. The next step was to find him home forever. Lucky’s story was posted on Facebook and caught the eye of Zachary Blair. He was so moved by the way everyone got together to help Lucky, he was looking forward to giving her home forever.
We hope that no dog will remain on the road in such conditions. Each dog is precious and deserves a home forever where he is loved and cared for.
