If the dogs are entrusted to owners to take care of them, this is unfortunately not always the case, the proof with poor little Benji.
When he arrived at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, he was so thin that shelter staff thought Benji was suffering from canine parvoviruses. The truth is that the 6-month-old puppy was just very severely malnourished.
Indeed, after having passed tests to try to detect various diseases that may have caused its thinness, they finally realized that the poor animal was in advanced malnutrition.
Despite the mistreatment he suffered, the young Benji remained very sociable and got along with humans as well as his fellow hair.
Thanks to the care and food he has received, the puppy is now better. It remains now to find him a truly loving home where he will be cared for.
And if Benji can now claim a happy ending, it is far from the case of all dogs in his situation: every day, in the United States, 5,500 dogs are euthanized in shelters after being abandoned and often abused by their owners in whom they had full confidence.
